About the AWaRe Portal The AWaRe Portal is a free online resource intended to increase public awareness of issues regarding antibacterial resistance. Taking account of the global recognition of the need for effective antimicrobial stewardship, as well as the need to ensure immediate access to necessary antibiotics and appropriate prescribing, WHO developed a framework based on three different categories – Access, Watch and Reserve – which all together forms the AWaRe categorization of antibiotics. It also strives to disseminate WHO guidance on optimal antibiotic prescribing among the health professionals worldwide detailing 1st and 2nd choice antibiotics listed as essential medicines for most common infectious syndromes. The recommendations featured in the AWaRe Portal are based on the WHO Electronic Essential Medicines List (eEML). The eEML is a comprehensive, freely accessible, online database containing information on essential medicines. The actual eEML is a beta draft. For questions, feedback, suggestions, or for error/bug reports please contact us at emlsecretariat@who.int |
