About: Dr. Zablon Zakayo Joctan, MD is a graduate medical doctor from the University of Dar es Salaam (UDSM) and completed his internship training at Dodoma Regional Referral Hospital (DRRH), where he rotated through internal medicine, surgery, pediatrics, obstetrics and gynecology, and community health. This training provided him with strong clinical foundations and broad exposure to patient care in a regional referral setting. Dr. Joctan has a strong professional interest in public health, antimicrobial resistance (AMR), and health systems strengthening. He has been actively involved in community- and facility-based health programs, including PMTCT, pediatric HIV care, maternal and child health service utilization, and AMR advocacy. His research interests focus on evidence-based medicine, quality improvement, and the equitable delivery of healthcare services. In addition, Dr. Joctan has a growing academic interest in neurocognitive sciences and neurodegenerative diseases. He has attended the International Brain Research Organization (IBRO) Conference, where he gained exposure to contemporary neuroscience research, brain health, and translational approaches to neurological disorders. He is also a contributor to the Alzheimer’s Disease–Medical Research Council (AD-MRC) Project in Tanzania, which focuses on Alzheimer’s disease research, awareness, and capacity building within the local context. Dr. Zablon Zakayo Joctan is committed to continuous professional development, research, and service. His long-term goal is to advance public health and neuroscience-informed healthcare practice while contributing meaningfully to national and global health priorities, particularly in low- and middle-income settings.
